The main reasons why Holmium oxide is widely used in the optical field are as follows:

Firstly, glasses and solutions containing Holmium oxide exhibit sharp absorption peaks in the spectrum within the range of 200–900 nm. As a result, they can be used as standards for spectrometer calibration, ensuring the accuracy and precision of optical instrument measurements. This application is already commercialized.

Secondly, Holmium oxide is used to manufacture glasses with special colors that meet specific optical or decorative requirements. By adjusting the content of Holmium oxide, the optical properties and colors of the glasses can be tailored, making it crucial in the production of optical glasses, filter glasses, and similar materials.

Thirdly, the wavelength of the Holmium laser is approximately 2.08 μm. It can operate in either pulsed or continuous modes and is harmless to the eyes. This makes it useful in laser equipment across various fields, including medicine, optical radar, wind speed measurement, and atmospheric monitoring.
