Why is alumina widely used in the chemical industry?

Alumina is widely used in the chemical industry mainly due to its unique physical and chemical properties. It has a relatively large specific surface area and good adsorption properties, which make it an ideal catalyst carrier. In numerous chemical reactions, the active catalyst components are loaded on the surface of alumina, which can significantly improve the activity, selectivity and stability of the catalyst. For example, it is widely used in reactions such as hydrofining and catalytic cracking in petroleum refining. It can make the catalyst disperse more evenly and increase the contact area between reactants and the catalyst to enhance the reaction efficiency. Compared with other desiccants such as silica gel, it has advantages in aspects such as precise control of humidity and tolerance to certain chemical substances under specific conditions.
