Cerium oxide is a pale yellow or light red powder. The uses are:
1. It is used as an additive in the glass industry and a glass grinding material. It is used in ceramic glaze and electronic industry as a piezoelectric ceramic penetrating agent.
2. Manufacture of high-activity catalysts, incandescent hoods for gas lamps, and phosphor screens for X-rays.
3. Cerium oxide can also be used as lens polishing agent, rare earth polishing powder has the advantages of fast polishing speed, high finish and long service life, compared with traditional polishing powder iron red powder, it does not pollute the environment, and is easy to remove from the stained matter.
4. Cerium oxide used for glass decolorization has the advantages of stable high temperature performance, low price and non-absorption of visible light. In addition, cerium oxide is added to architectural and automotive glasses to reduce the light transmittance of ultraviolet rays. For the production of rare earth luminescent materials, CeO2 is added as an activator in the luminescent materials of energy-saving lamps, rare earth trichromatic phosphors, and phosphors used in indicator lamps and radiation detectors.
5. Cerium oxide is also a raw material for the preparation of cerium metal. In addition, it is widely used in semiconductor materials, high-grade pigments, sensitizers for photosensitive glass, and purifiers for automobile exhaust gases.
