Cerium oxide is a light yellow or yellowish brown powder. The density is 7.13g/cm3. Melting point 2397 °C, insoluble in water and alkali, slightly soluble in acid. At 2000 °C and 15MPa, cerium trioxide can be obtained by reducing cerium oxide with hydrogen. At a temperature of 2000 degrees Celsius and a pressure of 5 megapascals, cerium oxide is yellowish, red, and pink. Its properties are polishing materials.
Molecular Formula: CE02
Subvolume: 172.13
According to the particle size, it can be divided into coarse powder, micron, sub-nano and nanoscale.
Description: Cerium oxide has stable performance and does not react with water and organic matter. It is a good glass clarifier, decolorizing agent and chemical auxiliary.
It is mainly used as glass decolorizing agent, glass polishing powder and raw material for the preparation of cerium metal. High-purity cerium oxide is also used in the production of rare earth luminescent materials. It is soluble in water and strong inorganic acids. It can be used as a decolorizing agent, clarifier and polishing powder for glass, and can also be used in ceramic appliances, chemical and other industries.
The main role of cerium oxide in various glasses
(1) Rare earth polishing effect. Rare earth polishing powder has the advantages of fast polishing speed, high polishing finish, and long service life. Compared with traditional iron powder polishing, rare earth polishing powder does not pollute the environment and is easy to remove contaminants.
(2) Decolorization of glass. Glass both contain iron oxide, which can be brought into glass through broken glass in raw materials, sand, limestone, and glass composition.
(3) Glass coloring. Rare earth ions are stable and bright in color at high temperatures.
When neodymium oxide is added to soda-lime glass and lead-lead glass, the color of the glass depends on the thickness of the glass, the neodymium content, and the intensity of the light source. Thin glass is light pink, thick glass is blue-purple. This phenomenon is known as neodymium dichroism; Praseodymium oxide produces a green color similar to chromium; Erbium oxide is pink in photochromic glass and crystalline glass; Cerium oxide and dioxide are used in photochromic glass. Titanium oxide is used in combination to turn glass yellow. Praseodymium oxide and neodymium oxide can be used in neodymium BL.
